Scammers preying on severe storm, tornado victims

Attorney General, Michigan State Police warning residents

Michigan summers are beautiful and fecund, but the lush landscape sometimes gives way to severe storms and tornadoes, resulting in immense damage.

Here is a list of things to be aware of to keep your money safe:

1) Be cautious of door-to-door solicitors who promise to speed up the insurance claims process or the process of hiring a contractor.

2) When you hire a contractor, ask to see a permit or a license.

3) Hire only well-known and recommended repair companies.

4) Get all agreements in writing.

5) Once you get your agreement, don't make a full payment until all terms of the contract are met.
