Search for person in Detroit River near Belle Isle called off for night

DETROIT – Authorities called off the search for a person in the Detroit River near the beach area of Belle Isle just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

The search may get underway again Friday morning. Dive teams spent hours searching the water Thursday evening after a report of a person who may have been in distress in the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the search is for a female who might be missing.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Detroit police, firefighters and EMS, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources all are searching.
