Democrats made Clinton the first female presidential nominee of a major party in the nation's history on Tuesday, shattering one of the last remaining glass ceilings in American politics.
The former first lady, New York senator and secretary of state was formally installed as the party nominee to take on Donald Trump on an emotional night at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia.
DNC Day 2: Hillary makes history
President Barack Obama on Wednesday dismissed Donald Trump in withering terms and offered his complete support for Clinton.
Obama offered an empowering vision of the nation at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Wednesday, saying America doesn't need a "self declared savior" like Trump to fix it.
"The America I know is full of courage, and optimism, and ingenuity," Obama said. "The America I know is decent and generous. Sure, we have real anxieties -- about paying the bills, protecting our kids, caring for a sick parent. We get frustrated with political gridlock, worry about racial divisions; are shocked and saddened by the madness of Orlando or Nice."

Clinton accepted the Democratic nomination for president with "humility, determination and boundless confidence in America's promise," taking her place as the first woman to lead a major presidential ticket Thursday night on the last day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
