DETROIT -

Trina Miller couldn't believe it happened in the middle of the day.

Last week an armed man made his way inside Liberty Tax on 7 Mile Road in Detroit. He wanted one thing -- blank checks.

"I've been on this corner for 12 years. This is the first time anybody has ever walked in my office to hold us up," said Miller.

The Local 4 Defenders have learned within the last week a number of tax preparers have been robbed. They include Liberty Tax, Instant Tax, Jackson Hewitt, Maxim Tax, H&R Block and National tax.

A suspect has been described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old, standing 6 feet 4 inches tall and wearing a black coat and tan Timberland boots. He has said to clerks "give me the checks."

In most cases these armed thieves walk out empty-handed since most stores don't keep cash inside and few have blank checks.

"We don't keep blank checks in here at all," said Miller. "When the IRS releases their money and all the checks are printed, then they are delivered to us for our individual customers. But we don't keep blank checks in our office at all."

No one has been injured in any of the robberies. Detroit police have collected a lot of surveillance video from the stores.

Anyone who has information on these robberies should contact Detroit police.
