Detroit has the highest insurance rates in the country, according to a new study by

The site pointed out three key factors: a high crime rate, potholes, and the state's "No Fault" auto insurance policy.

The site says the annual premium in Detroit comes out to be $10,723 a year.

In second place, the New Orleans, at $4,309.

Grand Rapids ranked third at $4,042.

The website came up with the numbers by creating a hypothetical Detroit driver - a 26-year-old man, no history of accidents, looking for extended coverage for a 2012 Camry.

Auto experts said even if drivers aren't paying $10,000 a year, most metro Detroit drivers are paying more for auto insurance than drivers in other parts of the country.
