Sunday night will become partly cloudy and stay chilly. Overnight lows will be in the low and middle 20s with the thin quilt of clouds overhead.
MLK Day, Monday, will be filled with commemorations and celebrations. Morning temps will be in the 20s. Afternoon temps will eventually reach the upper 30s. Precipitation arrives from the west and southwest, too. A wintry mix of wet snow, freezing rain and sleet is possible but will only be brief mid- to late-afternoon. As temps rise quickly above freezing with an approaching warm front, rain will rapidly develop just before evening and through much of the night. Detroiters must prepare for slushy, icy road conditions turning to wet conditions.
Tuesday will be warmer with a chance of rain showers throughout the day. Despite clouds overhead, a strong southerly wind will boost temps to the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.
The rest of the week remains much milder than average. Highs will be in the low 40s (10 degrees above average) Wednesday under mostly cloudy skies. Daytime temps rise to the middle and upper 40s Thursday, then near 50 degrees or more Friday and Saturday.
