Son turns himself in following double stabbing on Detroit's west side

Victims taken from scene on Wildemere to Sinai Grace Hospital, conditions unknown

DETROIT – A 26-year-old man stands accused of stabbing his mother and stepdad Wednesday morning at a home on Detroit's west side.

Police said the son turned himself in after the couple was found on Wildemere Street.

Local 4 spoke with a neighbor, who asked only to be identified as Mike, who said the couple was Birdie and Hubert Owens. Mike also said he had known the son, Chris, all of his life.

Mike says Chris told him he had gotten into an argument with his stepdad at 6 a.m. in the home.

"He said his stepdad came at him and pushed him into some glass," Mike said. "He went into his pocket, pulled his knife out and started swinging."

Chris ran a few blocks away to another friend's house, but Mike had his trust and brought him back to police.

Only Local 4 cameras are rolling as police look at his hands, photograph them and his shoes that have blood spatters on them.

Chris was taken into custody for further questioning.

Hubert had cuts to his face and neck.  Birdie was stabbed several times in the stomach.  Both were in surgery at Sinai-Grace Hospital, according to a daughter.

The case remains under investigation. No charges have yet been filed against the son.
