DETROIT -

Smashed and crashed.

Local 4 has obtained photos of damage to a new Detroit police cruiser and a Crown Victoria police car that happened right in the parking lot of the department’s Eastern District at Gratiot Avenue and Gunston Street.

How were the cars damaged?

Sources said that at 5 p.m. Wednesday, a Chevy Silverado pickup truck veered off Gratiot Avenue and hit both the police cars, which were parked at the time.

A man and a woman, who sources described as being "super drunk," went into the precinct to make a report that their truck had been in an accident.

Instant arrest?

No.

They both denied being behind the wheel of the truck.

Sources said Michigan State Police were called to the precinct and the man, 48-year-old Eric Fortune, blew a 0.279 on a Breathalyzer.

Michigan’s legal limit is 0.08.  To be considered “super drunk,” it’s .017.

The woman in the truck, sources said, blew a 0.135.

They have been arrested on a dozen outstanding warrants, but with police unable to determine who was driving, no drunken driving charges have been issued.
