Southfield man arrested for shooting man who was repossessing car, police say

Shooting happened on Chatsford Circuit

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 69-year-old Southfield man was arrested Thursday morning for shooting a repo man, police said.

The incident happened just after 5 a.m. in the 22000 block of Chatsford Circuit.

Police said the 44-year-old victim was repossessing the suspect's Chrysler 300 when he was shot in the leg above the knee. He is at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

The victim works for Signature Recovery Services. He and another repo man, who is only being identified as James, were assigned to the job.

In an interview with Local 4, James said the suspect came outside swearing at them before firing.

"It seemed like a lifetime within a five-minute time period when police arrived," James said.

A company spokesperson said the victim did properly identified himself to the suspect before the shooting.

After police cleared the scene, the Chrysler was still removed from the property.
