Southfield pledges to make streets safer

Police will be cracking down on reckless driving

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The city of Southfield is pledging to make itself safer. And if you're driving unsafely in the area, it could cost you.

Southfield city leaders on Monday will take the Southfield Safe Streets pledge.

That means a big change in the way police and fire do their jobs. In addition to answering 911 calls for help, the city is charging its officers to target unsafe actions.

They include:

Focus on locations with higher numbers of traffic accidents

Focus on distracted drivers

Focus on people that are texting while driving

Focus on drivers that disobey stop signs and traffic signals

Focus on speeders in residential neighborhoods and near schools

Residents are encourage to take their own Southfield Safe Streets pledge.
