SOUTHGATE, Mich. -

Nearly 50 people had to be evacuated from a medical clinic in Southgate Thursday morning after a driver slammed into the building.

The crash at the Blanzy Clinic on Dix Toledo Road - which is just north of Eureka in Southgate - happened just after 11 a.m.

"We just heard an explosion and got everyone out of the building," said Dr. Aaron Blanzy.

Early reports are the female driver was disoriented following the crash, but is expected to be ok.

There were 20 employees and approximately 30 patients inside the building when the accident happened.

"I think we're all still pretty shaken up," said one employee.

Everyone was evacuated as a precaution because of a natural gas smell around the building following the crash.
