Special needs student left alone on Livonia school bus

7-year-old student attends Livonia's Buchanan Elementary School; driver resigns

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Livonia School District has launched an investigation after a special needs student was left alone on a bus for about an hour on Tuesday.

The 7-year-old boy was supposed to get off the bus at Buchanan Elementary School on Hubbard Road, but he was overlooked by the driver and driver-in-training and taken to the bus yard.

According to the Livonia superintendent, the boy is not capable of getting off the bus by himself.

He was noticed about an hour later by another driver who used the bus. That driver took the boy to school.

The driver and driver-in-training have since resigned.

The superintendent calls the incident inexcusable.
