ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. - The monthly Senior Meal program at the St. Clair Shores Civic Center has been in danger of closing because of federal sequestration cuts.
But the community has come together to find ways to keep the valuable program going.
Donations from businesses and groups like the St. Clair Shores Fire Department will help fund the monthly meals to celebrate the birthdays of seniors.
Those who participate in the program said it's about more than food, it's an opportunity to spend time with your peers.
"I really don't see anybody during the day. My wife and I come here, we socialize, we get to talk to people, find out what's going on with them, and they find out what's going on with us," said Joe Orlando.
