Novi, Mich. - Friends and family are mourning the loss of a Detroit Catholic Central High School student.
David Widzinski, of Northville, was a sophomore at Catholic Central and a prominent member of their football team.
Widzinski wore No. 33 and played running back and linebacker for Catholic Central.
Widzinski passed away in his sleep sometime Sunday night or Monday morning. The cause of death has not been determined.
The school held a memorial service in his honor Tuesday morning.
Viewing for David will be held Thursday at St. Kenneth Church in Plymouth from 12 p.m.-8 p.m.
The school will be closed Friday for students and mass will be held at 10 a.m.
In a statement on the school's website, Father John Huber, C.S.B. principal says, "The hearts of our CC community have been tugged in several different and painful directions over this past year. We are confident in the prayers, love and support of the greater community, as we have already experienced over this past year."
This is not the first time this year Catholic Central students have suffered a loss.
Senior defensive lineman Tanner Cipriano's brother, Tucker, is charged with murdering his dad, Robert, and severely beating his mom Rose in April. Another brother, Salvatore, was also severely beaten.
On November 14th at the Detroit Catholic Central High School football game, the loudest cheers were not for a team, but a family.
Rose Cipriano made her first public debut with her son Tanner, a Shamrocks player, on the 50 yard line.
"When she heard that it was Senior Parent Night, she was feeling good and made the decision to come out," said the Rev. John Huber – CC's principal.
With her brother-in-laws on either of her sides, Rose walked out onto the field wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses and her CC jacket.
---Tanner, No. 99 on the team, stood smiling with his mom.
---Rose spent time watching the band from the sidelines
The family's oldest son, 19-year-old Tucker, and his friend, 20-year-old Mitchell Young, are charged in the attack.
