Remainder of residents in Livonia senior care center forced out

Ashley Court under scrutiny for alleged health violations; licenses revoked

LIVONIA, Mich. – State health officials evicted another building at a senior assisted living facility in Livonia on Friday, giving families only hours to remove senior citizens.

Relatives of residents told Local 4 they received phone calls Friday morning instructing them that their loved ones must be out of the building by 1 p.m.  A spokesman for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said those orders did not come from the agency, but several relatives maintain the caller identified herself as a social worker with the State.

After redialing a number, one caller identified herself as a worker for adult protective services in MIDHHS.  Another number went to voicemail for a different employee, who also indicated he worked for Adult Protective Services.

The news came Friday as Mayor Dennis Wright was speaking to the media about chaos that happened Wednesday when the state abruptly shut down other buildings at Ashley Court on Seven Mile Road. Wright said neither his office or the police and fire departments were notified about the closure, which caused a rush of panicked activity to the facility as families scrambled to find alternative places for the residents to go to.
