Antonio James Hicks, 19, allegedly shot Johnny Clyburn, 41, Tuesday morning during an argument at a home on Woodhall Street. A stray bullet also hit Hicks' mother, Nicolina Pace.
Clyburn was killed. Pace is recovering.
Pace and Clyburn were engaged. Family members told Local 4 Clyburn had recently taken Hicks in.
Hicks fled from police for more than hour until he was taken into custody. He's charged with first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and felony firearm.
Clyburn, a 21-year Air Force veteran, was a member of the 127th Security Forces Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.26195370
"Selfridge lost a valued member of our team to a tragic incident today. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Johnny's family, friends and his Security Forces brethren," said Col. Philip Sheridan, 127th Wing commander. "We are standing ready to help his family get through this trying time."
