Sterling Heights police: Gunman put gas station clerk in chokehold during robbery

Clerk of Zazz gas station recovering after early-morning robbery on Thursday

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Sterling Heights police are trying to track down a man they say attacked a gas station clerk during a robbery early Thursday morning.

Police said the man, who was caught on surveillance cameras just after 2 a.m., went into the gas station at 15 Mile and Mound roads and put the 23-year-old clerk in a chokehold.

They struggled until the man forced the clerk to open a cash register at gunpoint.

During the struggle, police said the clerk was hit several times in the head by the gunman.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The clerk is in stable condition.
