Crime alert issued at University of Michigan after armed robbery on campus

Student not hurt when gunman steals cash from him

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A crime alert has been issued by police at the University of Michigan following a report of an armed robbery.

The Ann Arbor school's Division of Public Safety and Security says a student reported that he was robbed by a man with a small handgun around 10 p.m. Tuesday as he was on a pathway between two parking lots on North Campus. No injuries are reported.

The student told police he gave the man cash and the suspect fled on foot. A detailed description of the suspect wasn't immediately released.

Lt. Jason Forsberg said there will be extra patrols around the area where the robbery happened.

"We always advise students to be aware of their surroundings. When possible go with other people. Let people know where you are going. Take advantage of the bus system. Take advantage of the same ride program the university offers," Forsberg said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call campus police at 734-763-1131.
