Man diagnosed with disease in Sierra Leone

OMAHA, Neb. – Dr. Martin Salia, a surgeon diagnosed with Ebola, has died Monday morning in the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NBC News reports.

The surgeon was said to be in serious condition Sunday night when doctors were trying to use experimental drugs to save his life.

Salia was the 10th Ebola patient to be treated in the United States. He was living in Sierra Leone and was diagnosed with Ebola on Monday. He was a legal U.S. resident, so he arrived Sunday in an attempt to save him.

Salia's son told NBC News that his dad had a calling to work in Sierra Leone but knew the risks of doing so.
