Susan G. Komen 3 Day starts today

60-mile walk to raise money to fight breast cancer

The Susan G Komen 3 Day starts this morning in Novi.

It’s a 60-mile walk through Metro Detroit to raise money to fight breast cancer.

Participants raise a minimum of $2,300 and walk an average of 20 miles a day for three consecutive days, all while educating tens of thousands of people about breast health with every step.

Events like the 3-Day and Komen Race for the Cure® have helped Komen invest more than $2.8 billion to fulfill its promise to save lives and end breast cancer.

Since 2004, the Michigan 3-Day has raised more than $56 million in the fight to end breast cancer.

"In 2016, more than 240,000 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and nearly 2,600 cases will be diagnosed in men in the U.S.," said Chrissy Mathews, Susan G. Komen 3-Day Program Manager. "The participants in Michigan have worked tirelessly to help us in our mission to eradicate this disease and we won't stop until a cure is found."

Throughout the weekend, local residents can help encourage and cheer on 3-Day participants as they journey 60 miles in three days.
