DETROIT -

A 46-year-old Detroit man has been charged with allegedly breaking into the city's Opera House and then getting caught when he tried to help two police officers who got locked inside.

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy on Wednesday charged Robert Jones with breaking and entering, safe braking and malicious destruction of building and personal property.

Brown is accused of smashing out a glass door early Tuesday morning and forcing open a cash register.

Detroit Opera House shattered window

While Brown was inside, two police officers went in to try to find him -- but they walked through two doors that locked behind them.

Brown found a security guard in the building and led the guard to the officers who were stuck in the stairwell.

Once the doors were unlocked and the officers freed, Brown was arrested.
