Suspect in custody after 350 prescription pills from Madison Heights Walgreens

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – A 32-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday in California in connection with an armed robbery where 350 prescription pills were stolen from a Walgreens in Madison Heights.

Police said around 11:05 a.m. June 3, a man walked into the Walgreens at 28600 John R. Road. He walked up to the pharmacy counter, pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun from his waistband, pointed it at the clerk and demanded prescription pills.

The clerk handed over about 350 Oxycontin pills, and the man put them in a bag before walking out the front door.

He was last seen leaving the store on foot heading north.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Two days later, the same man robbed a Biggby coffee shop in Allen Park where a suspect left with $200 after brandishing a handgun.

The suspect fled to California where another Walgreens was robbed on June 14 and later a CVS pharmacy on June 20.

Charges are pending.
