Suspect in high-speed police chase through Southfield, Detroit is charged

Erik Anton Tyus accused of assaulting police officer, taking off

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A car break-in suspect who led Southfield and Detroit police on a high-speed chase last week has been charged.

Southfield police said 39-year-old Erik Anton Tyus of Detroit was arraigned Saturday on charges including fleeing a police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon and stealing a financial transaction device.

His bond was set at $150,000 and he's due back in 46th District Court in Southfield on March 21 for a hearing.
Sky 4 was over the scene Friday morning and helped police navigate to Tyus.

For more than 20 minutes, Tyus allegedly sped through neighborhoods and major roadways, at times driving on lawns to escape police.

Police eventually rammed his car into the side of a building.

The chase began after Tyus allegedly assaulted a police officer who had tried to pull him over.

Police said Tyus is suspected in several car break-ins in several cities.

No one was hurt.
