Suspect in I-75 gang shootout arraigned

Women shot, freeway closed for hours after I-75 shootout over drugs

DETROIT

The suspect who police say fired shots on I-75 -- causing a two car accident and shutting down the freeway for hours -- was arraigned on several charges including assault with intent to murder and discharging a weapon from a car Saturday.

Demetrius Brown, 28, from River Rouge was charged for the October 8th incident that closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Livernois Avenue in southwest Detroit.

Police say Brown fired shots at another driver on the freeway in what appears to be a gang related retaliation over drugs.

Two cars were involved in a crash during the incident and a woman in her 20s was shot, but not seriously injured.

Michigan State Police arrested two suspects afterwards. The second suspect was not charged and was released.

Brown was given a $1 million cash bond and will be back in court on October 24th.
