West Bloomfield Township police said the man inside the home was Ricky Coley. The 50-year-old's body was found about 6 p.m. Monday.

West Bloomfield Officer Pat O'Rourke was fatally shot Sunday after responding to a 911 call about trouble at Coley's home in the Oakland County community.

Lt. Timothy Diamond said O'Rourke was part of a team of four or five police officers who responded to a 911 call that a man had tried to kill himself or needed medical attention. They called the man's name as they climbed the stairs to the second floor and "were met by shots fired through the bedroom door and the drywall," Diamond said.

The gunman, who police identified as Coley, remained inside the home for the majority of the day Monday. Police demolished part of the

home as they sent in a robot to find out what was going on inside.

The robot got a visual of Coley dead in the home before officers entered and were able to confirm.
