Police said the arrest was thanks to members of the Detroit Police Department, the media and the citizens of the city of Detroit.

Hill was named as a person of interest Monday. Authorities said he was identified as one of the suspects during the course of the investigation.

What happened

Herman Garth was at a store in the 18500 block of Joy Road, near the Southfield Freeway, at 1:30 a.m. to get a late-night pop. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran.

The store clerk warned Garth that a few men were outside causing trouble.

Garth said the men took his keys, but couldn’t figure out how the key fob worked and became angry.

“He pushed me over to the other guy,” Garth said. “They started scuffling with me, and the other guy had a gun and shot me. I went down to my knees, on both my knees, and I couldn’t get up.”

Garth was shot in both legs, and several hundred dollars were taken from him.
