The van's 39-year-old driver, a Clinton Township man, was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital.

Wickersham said witnesses reported seeing the van blow through a red light before colliding with the PT Cruiser.

Wickersham said deputies were able to conclude that the van driver had been drinking before the crash and a blood test was taken. The results were not immediately released.

Wickersham said the driver has two prior convictions on operating while intoxicated charges.

Charges against the van driver are expected to be announced on Tuesday.
