Taylor police: Garbage truck driver at fault for crash that left 2 teens in critical condition

Police say teens didn't have enough time to stop before crash on Ecorse Road

TAYLOR, Mich. – Taylor police are pursuing charges against the driver of a garbage truck who allegedly hit a car that was carrying two teens Monday afternoon on Ecorse Road.

In a statement, police said the Advanced Disposal garbage truck turned left from westbound Ecorse Road onto southbound Holland Road too quickly, not giving the teens enough time to stop.

A 16-year-old boy from Taylor, who was driving, was taken to the University of Michigan Medical Center. The passenger, a 14-year-old girl from Dearborn Heights, was taken to Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. Family has identified them as David Cyr and Gianna Kenniburg.

Police said both suffered broken bones. The girl also has a head injury.

Both are in critical condition.

Police said the garbage truck driver wasn't hurt, but was found to have been at fault for the crash. The Taylor Police Department will submit a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, which will determine if charges are issued.
