Teen charged with kidnapping, carjacking Dearborn woman

Ezra Rodriguez, 17, being held on $1 million bond

DEARBORN, Mich. – A 17-year-old has been charged in connection with the kidnapping and carjacking of a Dearborn woman last week.

Police said Ezra Rodriguez Jr. was arrested Tuesday night. He is accused of forcing a woman at gunpoint into the passenger seat of her car on April 7 and driving her to several locations before she was able to escape at Patton Park.

Police initially released a sketch in the case in the hopes that someone would recognize the suspect.

"After receiving countless tips from the community, our detectives worked tirelessly along with our surveillance team to put together a case and obtain the necessary warrants for an arrest with the help of the Wayne County prosecutor's office," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. "After a warrant was obtained, Dearborn's special operations officers monitored the suspect around the clock and formulated an arrest plan with our partners in the US Marshals Service to safely apprehend the suspect during this incident."

Rodriguez is charged with carjacking, kidnapping, armed robbery, felony firearms and criminal sexual conduct. He's being held on a $1 million bond. His preliminary court appearance will be May 1.
