Teen gets 10k retweets to take Stauskas' girlfriend to prom

BROWNSTONE CHARTER TWP., Mich. – A senior from Woodhaven High School landed an impressive (and pretty cute) prom date, thanks to some help from Twitter. It's also thanks to a NBA player that we know all too well here in metro Detroit.

Former University of Michigan basketball star Nik Stauskus – now on the Sacramento Kings – brushed up on his game at practice. But something he may have been thinking about while on the court is how to keep his girlfriend!

"He tweeted me, he goes 'how many retweets would it take to go to prom with your girlfriend?'" Stauskas said.

Yep, that happened, thanks to the power of social media. Senior Jaime Guerra wanted to take Nik's girlfriend, Taylor Anderson to his prom.

"I asked my girlfriend if she would do it," Stauskas said. "She said yeah! So we agreed on the number as being 10,000. That seemed like a ridiculous number. I thought the kid would get 500, max."

Think again, Nik!

"You know, I checked five minutes later, it's at 500," Stauskas said. "I checked ten minutes later, it's at 2,000. I'm like, this kid might get it!"

Oh, he did get it! He even surpassed the required 10,000 retweets! So now, Jaime has a very popular Twitter account and his date for the prom. It looks like another special guest will be tagging along too.

"I think I'm going to be a chaperone," Stauskas said. "I'll be around there just checking that everything's going to be okay,."

Woodhaven's prom is on June 4th.
