Three suburban teenagers have been charged in the defacing of two buildings in downtown Detroit.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 18-year-old Esabella Meteer, 17-year-old Mackenzie Snitgen and 17-year-old Mary Elizabeth Harder were arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court on malicious destruction of property charges.
The charge carries up to five years in prison upon conviction.
A building on Michigan Avenue and one on Griswold Street were spray painted on June 22.
The teens are from Grosse Pointe Woods, a community east of Detroit. They were released Tuesday on $5,000 personal bonds. Preliminary examinations are scheduled for July 22.
Attorney Samuel Churikian represents Harder. He told reporters Tuesday that at most the incident is "a silly prank gone wrong."
He says none of the teens has been in trouble before.
