Teen mom's photo banned from yearbook

North Carolina school says photo with son promoted teen pregnancy

A North Carolina teen says her senior picture was pulled from the school yearbook because she posed with her 3-month-old son.

Seniors at Wheatmore High School in Trinity, N.C., were told to pose with something that represents them or is an achievement, The Associated Press reported.

Caitlin Tiller, 17, chose her son, Leelin.

"I picked my son because he's helped me be a better person," she told Yahoo! Shine. "By having him, I grew up quickly but I learned how to be responsible."

But Tiller said the photo was pulled from the yearbook two days before it went to print after school officials told her it promoted teen pregnancy.

They gave her a chance to submit an alternate photo, but she refused.

"I said if Leelin can't be in the photo, then I won't be either," Tiller told Yahoo! "The adviser said, 'That's your choice. Then you won't be in the yearbook' and hung up on me."

Randolph County Schools Superintendent Donald Andrews told The Associated Press the yearbook's practice has been to include photos only of graduating students, though family and friends could appear with seniors in advertisements.

Tiller graduated early and has started college, working part-time at McDonald's to support her son.
