Teen saves family from house fire in Detroit

3 houses on Kirby Street near McDougall destroyed

DETROIT – A 15-year-old boy is credited with getting his family out safe when a fire broke out at their home on Detroit's east side.

Three homes on Kirby near McDougall caught fire early Thursday morning.

DeMonta Palmer said he heard crackling noises and immediately jumped out of bed.

"I ran to my mother's room and woke them up and said, 'It's a fire, it's a fire. We've got to get out of here,'" Palmer said. "I was terrified. I look at it now and it just makes me mad."

The other two houses were vacant.

The cause of the fire is still under way.
