Little boy collects cans to help injured friend

Teenager is critical condition after ATV collision.

NORTH BRANCH TOWNSHIP, Mich. – James Mcnees, 8, is fighting for his life after a fun winter activity turned into a serious collision.

James and his two brothers ages 10 and 15 were ATVing and sledding on Slattery Road in North Branch Township when a pickup truck drove toward them and tried to steer away, but couldn't.  The pickup truck hit the ATV that james was on and collided in front of the boys home. The other two brothers and the driver of the pickup truck were not injured, but James suffered life-threatening injuries.

James best friend Sawyer, started collecting cans to raise money for the family's medical expenses.

In just one week, the third grade boy raised more than $1,600. "Inside my desk are a lot of cans, so I thought maybe we could get money so mom and dad could go back and forth," says Sawyer.

On Friday, 4424 cans and bottles were collected.
