'The Daily Show' takes on Detroit's bankruptcy

Host John Oliver discussed the lack of national coverage on the bankruptcy filing

DETROIT – In the segment titled "Chapter 9 Mile", John Oliver (who is filling in for Jon Stewart) used humor to slam Detroit's bankruptcy filing.

In the almost five minute long bit, Oliver touches on the lack of media coverage surrounding the bankruptcy filing. He pointed out how national reporters reported on Detroit's bankruptcy from outside of the city, and yet, in any other situation, reporters would be flocking to the location of the story, such as protests, or hurricanes saying, "but apparently standing on a street corner in the city of Detroit is just too dangerous of an assignment."

Oliver turns his disgust on Detroit's emergency city manager, Kevyn Orr. Noting that Orr is a top bankruptcy lawyer, Oliver quips that the decision to hire him to save Detroit is like "picking a demolitions expert to re-shingle your roof."
