The 30-year-old victim was walking around 3 a.m. Sunday east of Woodward Avenue when the two men, who were on bikes, rode up and confronted her, police said.

One of the men told her that he had a gun and demanded that she hand over her purse, police said.

The woman gave them her purse and the men rode away, police said.

Using the descriptions of the thieves provided by the victim, police said an officer spotted the men on Woodward Avenue near the bus stops at the old Michigan State Fairgrounds.

Police said the officer pursued the men, but they rode off in different directions.

The man who was holding the victim's purse was knocked off his bike by the officer and dropped the purse and lost his shoes, police said.

He ran into a nearby cemetery, where the officer lost sight of him.

Police are now looking for both men.

Police did not release detailed descriptions of the men.
