Thieves strike Detroit church twice

DETROIT – Regina Brown couldn't believe her eyes when she opened the doors to on Tuesday for bible study at Landmark Church of God and Christ.

In the back was a smashed window -- now boarded up -- and broken copper pipes which thieves were unable to get to. Outside was a missing padlock and snipped fence.

Overall, there is $2,500 in stolen and damaged property.

"It sort of disturbed me, like why would you want to come and take from us when we're all the time giving, giving, giving? So it hurts. It's hurting us," said Brown.

The church feeds more than a 100 people every month. They should be preparing for Thanksgiving, but with broken pipes there is no running water in the kitchen.

This robbery comes just a few weeks after the death of their pastor. Brown said she forgives whoever did this and prays the church finds a way to replace what's been taken.

Brown said thieves first broke the back window Saturday night. They returned sometime after Sunday services. She's worried they will come back for the copper pipes.
