Thieves swipe pickup from driveway, flee from Warren police

Warren police say thieves remain on loose after chase Wednesday morning

WARREN, Mich. – Warren police are searching for two men who stole a 25-year-old woman's pickup truck from her driveway early Wednesday morning in the 11000 block of Paige Street.

"We were sleeping. We didn't hear anything," said Rachel Mullins. "The dogs didn't hear anything either. All of a sudden the engine woke us and then we just saw it go."

Mullins called 911 after she saw someone driving away in her 2001 Dodge Ram at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. It only took minutes for Warren police to track down her truck near 9 Mile and Van Dyke roads.

"I was still on the phone with 911 when the dispatcher said police spotted my car," said Mullins.

Detective Sgt. Stephen Mills told Local 4 that when officers turned on their lights, attempting to pull over the truck, the driver slowed down, faked a stop, then went speeding off. Police say the driver hit 75 miles per hour while speeding through subdivisions before ultimately leading Warren police to Detroit.

The truck ended up crashing at Nevada and Carrie in Detroit. While officers stayed right on their tail, the driver and passengers, both black males, managed to get away and took off on foot.

Mullins' pickup was recovered along with a pistol that police believe the suspects tossed near the crash site.

"We work hard for what we have. It's sad people think they can just take what's not theirs," said Mullins.

Police also took two bicycles, which were found at Mullins' home, in for evidence. Sgt. Mills believes that's how the thieves were getting around before they ditched the bikes and stole the Dodge Ram.

If you have any information on this theft you're asked to call the Warren Police Department.
