Thieves swipe wheels in Northville Township

Farmington Hills police investigate similar thefts

NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Tom Rababeh is ready to spend a few thousand dollars on something he has never bought before: a security camera system for his Northville Township home.

That's because he walked out of his home Tuesday morning to find his 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe on blocks in his driveway. All the wheels had been stolen.

"I was dumbfounded, shocked. I didn't know what to believe. At first I didn't think it was real," he said.

Rababeh had special ordered the Tahoe with 22-inch custom wheels which cost $3,800. A quiet crew of thieves took the rims and tires overnight, leaving the Tahoe useless in the driveway. Just 24 hours prior to that, someone broke into his truck swiped a bunch of items.

"You'd never think it would happen here, but hey, you're never too far from trouble," he said.

Rababeh is right. Across the township at the County Club Village Estates four cars were left on blocks with the rims and tires stolen. Farmington Hills police are investigating similar reports.

The thieves are having a field day in the high-end neighborhoods. It's part of the reason why Al Hamade's computer surveillance store in Garden City is doing big business with homeowners.

"This is just something that give you peace of mind, let's you go, 'Hey police officer, here's the video, please catch the person," said Hamade.

Police say they have a description of a vehicle involved in these thefts. However, they are withholding that description at this time.
