The Detroit Tigers and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute are coming together for the second annual Pink Out the Park on Friday, Sept. 13.
The game begins at 7:08 p.m. and the Tigers will be up against the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park.
"Everyone knows someone touched by breast cancer,” said Tom Brookens, Detroit Tigers third base coach. “Raising awareness of breast cancer to help prevent it, detect it early and develop new treatments has parallels to a winning baseball team: it takes hard work, persistence and teamwork."
Throughout Comerica Park, there will be kiosks with educational information on breast health.
Of the 41 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive centers in the country, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Institute is the only one in Michigan solely focused on treating cancer.
"We are very grateful for the second annual Pink Out the Park and the year-round support of the Detroit Tigers and all they do to raise awareness of cancer prevention to help save lives," said Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO, Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. "Thanks to our sponsors and all of the fans who help support Pink Out the Park. Nowhere is there a more giving community than right here in Detroit, and nowhere is there a more dedicated team working to eradicate cancer than at the Karmanos Cancer Institute."
Delta Air Lines will be sponsoring the event that raises breast cancer awareness, as well as raises funds for breast cancer research at the Karmanos Cancer Institute. The first 10,000 fans to attend the game will be provided a pink bag give away, also sponsored by Delta Air Lines.
Fans wanting to attend the event will have two ticket package opportunities, one including an exclusive, limited edition t-shirt.
