Trenton police: Man drove drunk with son, officers also found crack pipe

Man pulled over with 11-year-old son in his vehicle

TRENTON, Mich. – It was July 18, the night of the Trenton Boat Races, when just before 9 p.m. police stopped Timothy James Brown for an illegal turn.

That started a turn of illegal events.

Brown, who was driving with his 11-year-old son in the car, failed his sobriety tests and blew a .14 blood alcohol level.

"Why would you do this after once or twice? The court cost and the fees are usually there to keep you from doing this again. Obviously risking the life of your own son in the vehicle is a danger to society," said Sgt. Rick Tanguay.

Once Brown was placed under arrest he checked his pockets and found a pipe commonly used for smoking crack cocaine.

"This is another example of making a good stop, a good arrest and doing everything we can to keep him off the road," said Tanguay.

Along with the crack pipe, police found Brown's license was suspended for his third drinking and driving offense in 2009 and an outstanding bench warrant for his arrest.

"The chances of him getting a license are probably going to be well into my retirement time," said Tanguay.

Because this is his fourth offense, police believe Brown could do some jail time. He remains at the Wayne County Jail until his next court date, which is next week.

His son was turned over to his grandmother.
