Truck crashes into west Detroit house

1 killed, 2 suffer critical injuries in crash on West Chicago

DETROIT – A truck crashed into a house after a deadly collision with a sport utility vehicle Friday on West Chicago near Asbury Park in west Detroit.

c Local 4 has learned the person killed was a passenger in the SUV.

The truck sustained heavy damage to its front end while most damage to the SUV is on its passengers' side.

The driver of the U.S. Ice truck was pinned in the wreckage. He's a fairly new driver and a father of several children, according to his coworker.

"They had a tough time getting him out, but they finally got him out. He was screaming," said witness Vince Mitchell.

As for the two men in the SUV, friends of the driver say he's a man in his 40s. His friend, who died from his injuries, was in the passenger seat.

The home that the truck hit is vacant. It belongs to Barbara Reed. She was sitting in the driveway just moments before the crash. However, she had forgotten her cellphone and pulled out of the driveway in time to avoid taking a direct hit from the truck.

"I could have been in the driveway. God is good. He kept me comforted," she said.
