SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A truck stolen off a Washington Township car dealership led to a police chase through Shelby Township.
It began around 1:40 a.m. Friday when the Shelby Township Police Department spotted a 1998 Ford F150 pickup truck driving southbound on M-53 near 25 Mile Road.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office had just reported the vehicle stolen from a Washington Township area car dealership. When an officer attempted to pull over the suspect, the suspect began to flee and elude officers at a high rate of speed. A pursuit lasting several minutes entailed, during which the suspect struck a patrol vehicle. The suspect eventually pulled into a convenience store lot in the area of Shelby and 23 Mile Roads, where the driver surrendered to police. Neither the suspect nor officers were injured as a result of the pursuit. One patrol car, however, sustained minor damage. The suspect, a 23-year-old Warren man, was arrested and is facing charges for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, damage to police property, and driving without a license.
