Two shot, three arrested after a shooting during basketball game

Mt. Clemens – Macomb County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a shooting in the area of Clemens and Court streets in the City of Mt. Clemens.

Police say an argument during a basketball game led to two 17-year-olds, one from Eastpointe and one from New Haven, injured with gun shot wounds.

Around 9 p.m. Friday night a group of men playing basketball in a neighborhood of Mt. Clemens starting verbally fighting, for reasons police say are unknown at this time. 

Police say after the argument started, shots were fired and the two teens were hit. One victim is suffering from a gun shot wound to the foot, the other was shot in his calf. Both were treated and released from McLaren Hospital in Mt. Clemens.

Detectives have recovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun believed to be used in the shooting. Detectives are continuing their investigation and awaiting Michigan State Police forensic lab results.  It is unclear at this time the incidents leading up to the shooting.

Macomb County Sheriff's office arrested three suspects on unrelated charges including resisting and obstructing, fleeing and eluding, possession of marijuana and receiving and concealing a stolen firearm.

A 23-year-old male from Mt. Clemens, along with a 39-year-old male from Mt.Clemens and an 18-year -old male from Roseville are all in police custody.
