DETROIT – The UAW has announced that it has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with General Motors Sunday night. The deal comes just minutes before a midnight strike deadline.
The UAW's bargaining committee unanimously voted to send the proposed Tentative Agreement to the UAW National GM Council. The Council will meet in Detroit on Wednesday to discuss and vote on the agreement. Terms of the four-year deal will not be released until after the Council approves the deal.
"We believe that this agreement will present stable long-term significant wage gains and job security commitments to UAW members now and in the future," said UAW President Dennis Williams. "We look forward to presenting the details of these gains to local union leaders and the membership."

If the union's National GM Council approves the tentative proposal, rank-and-file GM workers will vote to approve or reject the deal.
GM is the second Detroit automaker to negotiate with the UAW. Ford is the only remaining company to begin high-level discussions.

Terms of the four-year agreement are not being shared publicly to allow the International UAW to inform their membership about the agreement and conduct a ratification vote. If ratified, the agreement would cover about 52,600 GM employees in the United States who are represented by the UAW.
GM won't comment further until the contract is ratified.
