University of Michigan police: Students assaulted by group just off campus

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Two University of Michigan students reported being assaulted by a group of 12 people early Friday morning in the 1000 block of East University in Ann Arbor, according to police.

Eight males and four females assaulted the couple about 1:40 a.m. before bystanders intervened, University of Michigan police said. The couple was walking between houses in the 1000 block of East University, which is south of Tappan and Greenwood streets, when they were attacked by the group.

Police say the victims offered limited descriptions of their attackers. However, one was described as a black male standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He was between 20 and 25 years old with cornrows and he was wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. A second attacker was described as a black female standing about 5 feet 3 inches tall with a heavy build, light complexion. She was in her late teens or early 20s with a large, bleached-blonde afro and wearing black leggings and a white top.
