University of Michigan student sexually assaulted while walking, police say

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A University of Michigan student was sexually assaulted while walking early Sunday, police said.

According to police, the student was walking on East University Avenue near Prospect Street, just south of Central Campus around 2:30 a.m.

She was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted before she could call for help, police said.

“It's so unfair that women have to be scared to walk home,” said Kera Yang, a University of Michigan student.

Earlier this month, a 19-year-old female was sexually assaulted in her apartment near South University and Forest avenues.

Students say the assault is part of a larger problem.

The university has not commented.
