Sammi Smith kept the urn in her bedroom.

“She was a really good woman,” Smith said.

Smith and two friends had left the apartment to work on a car in the parking lot.

The thief got in through an unlocked front door, the sheriff's office said. A toolbox was also stolen.

“My house was completely trashed, there was milk spilled everywhere,” Smith said. “I went back to my room and the urn was gone."

The urn was later returned, though other items that were stolen were not.
