US-23 south back open at I-94 after deadly crash

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – All lanes of southbound US-23 are open to traffic again at the I-94 exit in Pittsfield Township after being closed Thursday afternoon due to a deadly crash.

A Chevrolet SUV went off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

According to Huron Valley Ambulance, there were two victims -- one pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken by Survival Flight to the University of Michigan Hospital.

Traffic was backed up for hours. 

Pittsfield Township Public Safety said firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the two people from the SUV.
