PLYMOUTH, Mich. – From Ford to Chevy, muscle cars to classic trucks, Vanguard Motor Sales is the candy store, and owner Jim Athens is the kid.
"For 17 or 18 years, I did real estate mortgages," Athens said.
But one day, Athens decided to quit his day job and live his dream. Twelve years ago, he started Vanguard Motor Sales and it has grown into what it is today: 182 cars that any classic car enthusiast would drool over.
This is their motto at Vanguard: "We park people's dreams in their drives."
"I remember my dad's car and him changing gears," Athens said. "For some people, they remember their first date car. That's what's cool about making peoples' dreams come true."
Athens said they sell and ship cars all around the world, but there's extra interest around the 3rd Saturday in August. They just sold three cars to those ready to cruise down Woodward.
If you're interested in living the dream, or at least taking a peak, Vanguard's showroom is open Monday through Saturday at 15100 Keel Street in Plymouth.
They will be at the Woodward Dream Cruise at the corner of Normandy and Woodward on Saturday.
